Prof. Dr. Ernesto Schulz Lang![]() The research group of prof. Ernesto studies the chalcogen chemistry, mainly the compounds derived from organyl halides of tellurium. These compounds commonly present hypervalent tellurium, and the strong interaction of tellurium atoms with the halogens provides supramolecular arragements or polymeric structures. The structural arrangement differs basically due the state of oxidation of tellurium and the specie of halogen which the tellurium is connected. Moreover, Prof. Ernesto investigates the chemical behavior of metallic organylchacogenides, especially derivatives of selenium and tellurium combined with the element mercury. These compounds are useful to application in the chemistry of materials, because they are interesting starting materials for the manufacture of semiconductors. Structural analysis by the method of X-ray diffraction is the main tool of work for the characterisation of the new compounds synthesized. Areas of interest
